Kristin Bonilla

When I joined the Army National Guard in 2008, I had no idea how far the military would take me in life. I served in Arizona at the 860th MP CO. I was also on the Honor Guard, which is a unit that performs military funeral honors.

In 2013, I deployed to Afghanistan where our unit trained Afghan Nation Army soldiers. I happened to stumble into a salsa class, where I found my love for dance and my future husband SGT Alfonso Bonilla. I was able to get my Bachelor's and Master's Degree with my benefits. I now serve as a cadre member at the Recruit Sustainment Program, where we train new soldiers.

The military has made me a stronger person. It's not only a community I belong to, but a family I am proud to be a part of. I am very proud to be supporting the Honor Flight program because I understand the value of giving veterans an opportunity to see the monuments made in honor of their sacrifices. We owe them so much, I am proud I can help show my appreciation in any way!
